Challenges associated with the use of social media in sharing academic information by students in Tanzania

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to examine challenges associated with the use of social media in sharing academic information. The research has used the cross sectional research design. The participants in this study were 120 students at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania. These participants were chosen through systematic sampling. The data were collected by a questionnaire. SPSS was used for data analysis. Frequency, percentages and mean was the descriptive statistics employed while multiple linear regression was used to determine challenges associated with the use of social media in sharing academic information. The results revealed the challenges affecting the use of social media for sharing academic information in higher education are high cost of airtime, inadequate technical knowhow and slow internet connection
